⚔️ Part 2: The Childhood and Rivalry

🏰 Growing Up in Hastinapura

The Pandavas and Kauravas grew up together in the royal palace of Hastinapura, under the watchful eyes of elders like Bhishma, Vidura, and Kripacharya. From a young age, the differences between them became clear. While the Pandavas were known for their kindness, bravery, and respect for dharma (righteousness), the Kauravas, especially Duryodhana, were jealous, arrogant, and ambitious.

🎯 Training with Dronacharya

To train the princes in warfare, the great warrior Dronacharya was appointed as their guru. He taught them archery, sword fighting, mace combat, and strategy.

Each prince excelled in different areas:

  • Arjuna became the best archer and Drona’s favorite.

  • Bhima and Duryodhana mastered the mace.

  • Yudhishthira learned the ways of truth and justice.

  • Nakula and Sahadeva were experts in sword fighting and medicine.

But the growing skills of the Pandavas made Duryodhana feel threatened.

🏹 Ekalavya’s Story

One day, a tribal boy named Ekalavya approached Drona to become his student, but Drona refused because Ekalavya wasn’t from the royal family. Determined, Ekalavya made a statue of Drona and taught himself archery.

When Drona later saw Ekalavya’s unmatched skill, he was shocked. To protect Arjuna’s status as the best archer, Drona asked for Ekalavya’s right thumb as “guru dakshina” (a gift to the teacher). Ekalavya, with great devotion, cut it off and gave it—forever losing his ability to shoot like before.

🔥 The House of Lac (Lakshagriha)

Duryodhana's hatred for the Pandavas grew. With the help of his uncle Shakuni, he plotted to kill them. He built a beautiful palace made of lac (a flammable substance) and invited the Pandavas to stay there.

But wise Vidura secretly warned them. The Pandavas escaped through a hidden tunnel and went into hiding. Everyone believed they were dead.

🌟 Moral of the Chapter:

Jealousy can destroy even the strongest relationships, while true greatness is built on humility and learning—like Ekalavya's devotion and the Pandavas’ patience.
